destination prague
that's right....PRAGUE!
how did this come to be? many of you know that my mother-in-law is a very experienced world traveler. this year, one of her adventures will be taking her to eastern europe. she told us about it at christmas, and how she & a friend were going to tour the area this fall. well, it so happens that my mother-in-law's travel partner has decided not to go after all, and kirk and i have been invited to join marti in prague on september 3.
well, let's see...do i have to even think twice about that? um, no! the answer is yes.
of course, we can't afford it. we can't even afford our daily bread. september is a particularly busy month at work. both of our passports are expired. but we ARE going to prague...we will make it work. i don't care if i have to take a 2nd job to make it happen.
you only live once, after all.
i've mentioned this to a few people and i've had a few kindred spirits share in my excitement.
others have given me a puzzled look before asking...1. "where is prague, anyway?" and 2. "why do you want to go there?"
let me answer these questions...
1. prague is in the czech republic.
2. this is a multi-layered answer.
a. because i am interested in the world outside of the u.s. *gasp* yes, it's true
b. because one just shouldn't say no to invitations to see new places if at all possible
c. because the thought of experiencing a different country/culture/cuisine/language /landscape/history thrills me
d. because they have a varied and interesting history over 1000 years long
e. because they have a gigantic castle, gorgeous architecture, an astronomical clock, and the best beer in the world
f. because in 1989 the czechs engaged in something called the "velvet revolution" and ended communist rule...without bombs, or war, or violent acts (except on the part of the police.)
aka: my kind of people.
i haven't been this excited in months. woot!
now, it's time to pinch even more pennies, get in better walking shape, apply for a new passport, and start planning!
if you've ever been to prague/eastern europe, or are from there, or have any tips about the area, would love to hear from you.

I was honestly just browsing other blogs and came across yours. Very nice.
And, as a resident of Prague I hope you enjoy this city as much as my family and I do.
(My wife and I even started a website about it. Maybe it might help your travel a bit.)
September is a great time to visit actually. The crowds will be down a bit and the weather pleasant. Rent a paddle boat for an hour if you get a chance. It's a cheap and original way to see both sides of the Vltava River and spires of the city.
If you have any questions or need advice, let us know. We're happy to help.
Have a great trip!

That is so exciting! Great lists of reasons of why you want to go, but I agree that you don't really need reasons that you want to visit a new place/country. :)
