My Inner New Yorker

You Belong in Greenwich Village

Avant garde and bohemian, you're quick to adopt new ideas and lifestyles.

And while you're a bit less weird these days, you still have a "live and let live" philosophy.

According to the silly little quiz above...I belong in Greenwich Village. According to my realtor, I belong in a Lake Elsinore townhome I can't afford. According to my family, I probably belong in Colorado with them. According to my boss, I belong in Temecula, where she lives, maybe so she can pester me and check for sure that I'm really hurling when I take sick time. According to one set of friends, the place for me is Murrieta, as per another set of friends, Riverside. According to my husband, I belong in "an intellectual, artistic area on the east coast." (okay that sounds great!) At one point, I really thought I belonged in Portland. According to "find your spot.com" I belong in Providence, RI. Hmm.

Kirk and I had a horrifying experience with our realtor on Saturday, forced unwillingly into a hard sell situation we weren't prepared for and which got me to thinking - where DO I belong? I could easily adapt to any of the places above. Ultimately, I am convinced Kirk and I could be happy anywhere, so long as we are together and have at least a little space of our own in which to be creative. What realtor really has my interests in mind, in this market, or ever? If we're happy, is there really any harm in renting for years to come? Eventually, most folks end up renting, living with family, or in a rented room in a nursing home, right? I get that buying a home is a "good investment" and "the american dream," but I do question whether these things are true for US.

I'll let you know if and when I get answers to any of this. For now, suffice it to say I feel content, and that's a pretty good feeling.

Want to have a say? Take my poll and let me know what YOU think:

My first Video Tutorial

I am a secret you-tube-aholic. Well, maybe it's not even secret anymore. I love watching little tutorials, glimpses of other people's lives, cute kids, movie clips, whatever. So, I decided to make a little tutorial about a space-saving craft tip for my papercrafting friends over at Tally.

Of course, Kirk helped as my videographer and editor. Here it is, I'm re-thinking the pigtails already. (if you want the other music to stop, go over on the right and click the pause button on the music player)

And...I don't usually say "pop" that much. Or ever.

TallyScrapper

During the month of May, 2008, I've been a "Calendar Girl" over at tallyscrapper.com, which is their word for "guest designer." Being a guest designer means helping to design a set of scrapbooking products for their monthly "kit," and then getting the kit for free in order to make and upload projects to help sell the kit. It also means getting featured on their website, making a tutorial for their blog, and helping with some online activities during the month.

I'm new to the whole scrapbooking scene, but I am finding it to be a much needed re-entry into the creative world. I'm having a great time. If you're at all into papercrafts, art journaling, scrapbooking or photography, head over there and check out their site.

Here are some examples of projects I've done and uploaded to tallyscrapper:

hello world

Well, I caved. I'm starting a blog. I guess for a long time it seemed to me that in order to have a blog, you were either selling something, or just really certain that everyone else might want to know all about your life. I assumed neither were true for me.

However, from what I have deduced from recent conversations, I have concluded that there are actually people in my life, who wouldn't mind knowing more about it. This blog is for all of those people, whom I love.

This blog is also for anyone else who happens along and wants to know more about me, my life, whatever it is I'm going on and on about today, or otherwise wants to spend a little time listening to some tunes or gazing at words.

For those about to rock, I salute you.
